Wilhelmsen is a pretty interesting story. He was drafted out of high school by the Brewers in 2002. He tested positive for marijuana after the 2003 season and didn’t play a pro game from 2004-2009, leaving the game for “a few years of bartending and traveling the world.” In 2009 he decided to try again, joining the Tuscon Toros of the independent Golden League. In 2010, my Seattle Mariners signed him and he threw 60+ innings over three levels of the minor leagues, topping out in Low-A Clinton.

This spring, he has a shot at making the Mariners bullpen. He still has the stuff that made him a prospect - a mid-90’s fastball and a sharp breaking ball. I’m all for it. Cats!

Tom Wilhelmsen spent five years wandering the earth and smoking pot. Now he is skipping four levels of the minor leagues...
